NASA has released the first photograph of Earth taken from the Orion spacecraft as part of the Artemis II lunar mission. The image depicts our planet as a luminous crescent. This momentous occasion marks the first time since the conclusion of the Apollo program in 1972 that humans have been able to observe Earth from such a significant distance.

On Friday, April 3, the crew of the Orion spacecraft received clearance to initiate its trajectory towards the Moon. Following this critical maneuver, the astronauts commenced preparations for six hours of intensive scientific investigations on Earth's natural satellite. These crucial observations are designed to enhance our understanding of how the Moon and the broader Solar System were formed, and to meticulously study its craters, ancient lava flows, fissures, and mountain ridges.

On April 1 (April 2, Moscow time), the United States successfully launched a crewed mission to the Moon, a feat not accomplished since 1972. The launch of this mission had previously faced two delays. Experts had voiced concerns regarding potential challenges that could arise during this latest attempt.

Four astronauts are currently aboard the Orion spacecraft, steadily charting their course towards Earth's natural satellite. Further details regarding the scientific objectives and progress of this mission are anticipated.
