President of Cameroon Absent from Country for Two Months, Media Reports
Reports indicate that Paul Biya, the 92-year-old President of Cameroon, has been in Europe for the past two months without returning to his country, according to the Associated Press.
Biya, who holds the distinction of being the world's oldest president, has been leading Cameroon since 1982. He began his eighth presidential term in November 2025.
"Thursday marked two months since the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, was last on Cameroonian soil," the publication stated.
The President's office initially announced that he had traveled to Europe for a brief private visit. The government later confirmed his presence in Switzerland.
The news agency highlighted that the president's prolonged absence has sparked concerns regarding his health. The Associated Press noted that Biya spends considerable time in Europe, particularly in France and Switzerland. During his absences, the country's affairs are reportedly managed by key party officials and members of his family.
Issa Tchirouma Bakary, a prominent Cameroonian opposition figure, remarked that there is a widespread sentiment in Cameroon that Biya's health is not good.
