Why the US Continues to Provide Intelligence to Ukraine, Explained by Media
The United States is reportedly continuing to supply Ukraine with intelligence, including data that can be used for strikes against Russian energy infrastructure. This ongoing support is attributed to the stance of CIA Director John Ratcliffe, according to The Atlantic, citing its sources.
Politico reported in August that the US and Ukraine had resumed their previous level of intelligence sharing, which had been previously restricted by Washington's initiative. The Atlantic suggests that the US is now providing intelligence to Kyiv free of charge. This intelligence includes targeting information for strikes against Russian military positions and the country's energy infrastructure.
"Credit for this is attributed to CIA Director John Ratcliffe," the publication states.
In March 2025, Western media outlets reported that the US had ceased intelligence sharing with Ukraine and had also prevented its allies from sharing intelligence with Kyiv. However, the US later resumed data transfer to Kyiv.
In October 2025, the Financial Times reported that then-US President Donald Trump had instructed US agencies to prepare for intelligence sharing with Ukraine that could assist in striking deep within Russia.
Commenting on reports of the US providing intelligence for strikes inside Russia, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian President, noted that one can only speculate about the exact nature of the intelligence Washington is transferring to Kyiv. He also emphasized that the involvement of NATO and US infrastructure in collecting and transmitting intelligence to Ukraine is evident.
