Heroic Rescue, Tragic Loss: 20,000 Join Search for Missing Boy in Ingushetia

Medical news

In Ingushetia, a heroic act of bravery turned tragic on Monday, June 15th. Two boys were swimming in a river when one began to drown. An 8-year-old child selflessly dove in to rescue his friend, successfully saving him but tragically failing to escape the strong current himself.

The incident has mobilized an unprecedented search effort, with nearly 20,000 volunteers joining the operation, as confirmed by a search information coordinator. A local resident recounted the brave boy’s final moments: “He saw the child was in danger and went to save him. Before that, he told his friend, ‘We are men, let’s save him.’ He threw himself to save the child. The child was saved, but he himself did not make it back and drowned.”

The search has expanded beyond Ingushetia, drawing people from Chechnya, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia. Volunteers are meticulously combing the riverbanks, and attempts were made to construct a dam to lower the water level, unfortunately without success.

In addition to the civilian volunteers, law enforcement agencies, including OMON (special police units) and the “Akhmat” special forces, have joined the extensive search efforts.
