Sergey Sobyanin: First Tunnel of Biryulevskaya Metro Line Completed
On March 18, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the completion of the first tunnel for the new Biryulevskaya metro line. He also highlighted advanced developments by residents of "Technopolis Moscow" and discussed the testing of robots and unmanned systems.
During a ceremonial event marking the completion of the first tunnel's excavation, Sobyanin inaugurated the start of tunneling for the left track from "Klenovy Bulvar" towards "Kuryanovo." The Mayor stated that the construction of the first phase of the line is planned until 2028, with the entire line expected to be finished by 2029. He emphasized that the Biryulevskaya line, a project discussed over 50 years ago, became feasible only after the creation of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and the Big Circle Line (BCL), which allowed for the integration of new metro radii.
The first completed tunnel is 1.67 kilometers long and six meters in diameter, connecting the future stations "Ostrov Mechty" (Dream Island) and "Klenovy Bulvar" (Maple Boulevard). Its construction involved a complex section beneath the Moscow River, reaching a maximum depth of 30 meters. The "Ostrov Mechty" station will improve transport accessibility for over 225,000 residents in the Danilovsky and Nagatinsky Zaton districts. Thanks to the "Klenovy Bulvar" station, travel time to the MCC for Nagatinsky Zaton residents will be reduced from 36 to just 6 minutes. The design concept for "Klenovy Bulvar" station plans to incorporate "golden autumn" motifs, harmonizing with white marble reminiscent of the Ascension Church in Kolomenskoye.
Intellectual Potential and Innovations
Residents of the "Technopolis Moscow" Special Economic Zone presented over 90 unique developments in 2025. These primarily include solutions in information technology, microelectronics, and high-tech equipment. Notably, a laser equipment manufacturer showcased six modern machines for laser marking and engraving. Since its inception, Technopolis Moscow residents have registered 818 intellectual property outcomes.
Testing Center for Robots
The Moscow Innovation Cluster has opened Russia's first testing center for various unmanned robotic systems, including those for municipal, warehouse, logistics, transport, and construction applications. An example of a system currently being tested is an autonomous floor-cleaning machine, which maps its environment in real-time, plans routes, and efficiently navigates around obstacles, ensuring fast and high-quality cleaning.
Significance of the Biryulevskaya Line
The Biryulevsky radius will become the seventh new line on the Moscow Metro map constructed in recent years. It will connect the "ZIL" station with the Biryulevo Vostochnoye (East) and Biryulevo Zapadnoye (West) districts, as well as the Kuryanovo microdistrict, where approximately 260,000 people are expected to reside by 2030, significantly enhancing their transport links.
